So I’m going to give you a little heads up

Waaaay back in time, in Yoruba-land, when a couple are in courtship and the man decides he has found the girl of his dreams and has decided he wants to marry her, and of course she decides she wants to marry him too! (Phew, needed to clarify)! He will go to the bride-to-be’s house with his entire family and or village and have what is called an Introduction. At the introduction he brings along gifts, a letter of his intentions/proposal, accompanied by an MC known as the Alaga-Iduro, the MC helps to ease the way into the Bride’s Family home or Village.

On arrival, they meet with the Alaga-Ijoko, who is the receiving MC for the Bride’s family or village. Then the banter and the negotiations begins. This is usually funny as one MC tries to outwit the other.

Here’s my brave attempt at a little translation of some antics that go on during the introduction

Alaga-Iduro:- “We hail from the Upperland beyond the rivers and the valleys, and we greet you sincerely and just want you to know that we have come for our bride”

Alaga-Ijoko:- “You and who’s army? You’re feeling very brave, how dare you come into our prestigious village and demand to pluck our sweetest rose…. just like that! I am sorry oooo, you have come on a wrong day and we don’t even feel like receiving visitors!! So goodbye!”

Alaga-Iduro:- “Oh dear! I sincerely apologise, you see when our son (the groom) came back home a week ago today, he wouldn’t eat, he wouldn’t sleep, nobody was at peace in our entire village. When we finally got the issue out of him, he said he was in luurrrve! Aaah! luurrve ke! We proclaimed, not the time to be in luurrve, but he was having none of it. He insisted we marched down here today and get him his bride. We come bearing gifts of the highest order to be found nowhere else in the entire Yorubaland…..as that is how we roll! And if you find there is anything missing just let us know, and it’s sorted..wink wink nudge nudge!”

Alaga-Ijoko:- “Right! I need a moment to ponder on that! In the meantime, you see it is a tradition that any visitors that come into our home or village must bring something for all the wives of the village… you just cant be coming to take a bride and that is it! Sort them out with a little sumting sumting, while I ponder further!”

There is usually loads of dancing and singing…as it’s a time of joy and celebration.

As time goes on…(and trust..it can go on) and with gentle persuasions, the groom is allowed in at which he comes in with his friends to prostrate (hope i spelt it right) in front of the bride’s family and ask the entire family for the hands of the bride in marriage. On acceptance ( and no there is usually no refusal…at least none that I know of hehehe) the bride is brought out to his groom, she says bye-bye to Mummy and Daddy, to be unveiled and united as one with her Hubby. Next……. Nice day for a white wedding

Below is the Pre-Wedding engagement sessions they had…The True Love Session.

I provide the true love sessions for three main reason:-

1. For the Couple to get used to me pointing an instrument in their faces, and barking orders at them (joke) but close to it! Also for them to get to know me and my craziness before their big day!
2. For me to get to know the couple at longer lengths before their big day and have loads of fun doing it!
3. And last but not least, the pictures taken, could be used as wedding favour pictures, Used on the Guest signing board, or just simply a keepsake of memories of a brilliant day of LOVE and fun!

Yes, you read it right! “Happy New Year”. February is the new year for the Makeover effects photoblog. I guess it has something to do with ‘late reflections or clarity’ of what i want to achieve for my year.

A whole load of THANK YOUs and BLESS YOUs with a heart filled with gratitude to all friends, family and clients alike. Without your support and encouragements a lot of things will not be. I am truly blessed to be able to do what I love, and it is truly down to all the love and support from you all.

This blog saw  no postings from me at all last year, it really wasn’t intentional, rather, I took on alot from developing the portraits side of my business JOJOLO – Portraits by Laku Davies. This took alot of my time, however things are a little less hectic now, so hope to get back to normal blogging and bringing you lots of beautiful and wonderful True Love Stories.

Happy Birthday! How I long to say those words to you again. It’s been almost seven years now, since you departed and not a day has gone by that I don’t think of you. The thought could come from anything, a lady walking in the street that looks just like you or has your eyes. The freshness of Sunday morning market; what I would give to have you drag me out to those car boot sales again.

If I could buy a wish, it would be that you were still here, to see Christian’s smile. It’s just like yours and his enquiring eyes, they remind me so much of you. How I wish you had met them. Dominique looks nothing like our side of the fam, but her character is one in a million. I know she would have you eating her every words, and doing exactly what she wants. I tell them both about ‘my mum’ as I regularly refer you to them.

Life’s been tough and good at the same time, I know you know I changed profession now, I feel your encouragement all the way. I feel you lead me to it anyway, you always used to love taking photographs all those family studio trips throughout the years, and I used to collect all the old family photos, still got most of them and I’ll always cherish them.

I wish you were here to share your stories with me one more time, and tell me all the silver lining stories. They sure have come in handy during those trying times. All your advise and wise words, they ring so true and I now fully understand and appreciate them. Now I truly know Mother really does know best.

My second awesome wedding in June was that of Felicia and Kenneth, at the Porchester Hall in Queensway London. The weather was brilliant (minus the threat of  drizzle). The Bride and Groom were full of Love and Romance, their family and friends were full of Fun and Laughter, and I had a brill time capturing the moments. Below are some of the Images of the day.
