RUN MY OWN RACE!

Hello everyone, Happy New Year to those of you I haven’t had the chance to wish well. It’s being a while since I posted in the blog. That’s because I’ve being a little busy over the holiday period, and I also took time out a little after the holidays.

It was time out to reflect on my 2008. My happy experiences, my sad ones, Ones I had learned a lot from, Ones which made me grow as a person and Ones which made me cringe with embarrassment. All in all I  thank God for his mercies and unmerited favours on my existence. I thank him for all the people he put across my path, people who are in my life for a reason, a season, and for my lifetime.

When I think back on 2008 reflections on the previous year, it’s amazing where the tides of time, takes us sometimes. I came across this statement with just four words, at that time.

I THINK I CAN.

Then the author rewrote

I THINK, I CAN

The first one shows uncertainty, chance, trial and perhaps expected error.

While the second statement to me, shows a statement with no boundaries and very certain! I think it, I can do it.

And that was the mantra ringing in my head throughout the year 2008, and believe me it had been an unbelievable year for me. I stepped out of my comfort zone a lot, and yes the reward was sweet.

For this 2009’s reflection on 2008,  the mantra will have to be to Run my own race.

I once asked an athlete who was scheduled to run in the same race as Linford Christie, ( for those of you who might be oblivious to who linford was, here it is) how he could think he could beat linford in the race, and how he psyches himself for the race?  “ Well he said, all I can do is run my own race, I have trained all season for it, so when the gun goes all I think about is getting to the finish line as quickly as I possibly can, I do not look to the left, nor do I look to the right to see what my opponent is doing. I just run my own race! When you run someone else’s race, you tend not to be relaxed and  don’t flow freely, you tense up, because you think I must catch up with him or he must not catch up with me, and when you tense up, that is the end of your race. You loose your free flowing stride and sometimes your balance and that could cost you the race”.

To me that was so profound, and it is something I vowed to apply to my lifestyle, to run my own race. I stay focussed on where I am going and how my stride and free flow is going to get me there. Although that athlete did not win the race against Linford, he came a respectable 3rd in the race, he did however get his PB (Personal Best time) for that season in that race. So there it is everyone, run your own race, to live your best life, achieve your goals and stay focussed. That’s the way I see it.

I thank everyone that visits my blog page, all my fans, all my clients, present and future, friends and family. I thank you all for your words of encouragement, and your patron. When you truly love what you do, and you stay focussed and keep perfecting your work and art, everything else gets into place.

My prayer for 2009 is to learn and grow more in my Purpose as Gods creation, as a mother, a daughter, a Sister, a friend and as an entrepreneur.

2009 is going to be a great year for MAKEOVER effects’ Laku Davies. So please join me in my journey.

Enjoy!
